This review was a guest post on my friend Scott’s blog, over at TheChristianNerd.com
There are several reasons why I think I’m blessed to be living in Namibia, this third world country of mine. Reasons such as the sheer variety of different people living together peacefully (upwards of 60 local languages), the fact that we were given the time, while the West only received the watch, and the fact that Simba and Mufasa live right outside my bedroom window make for a blessed life here in the depths of Africa.
However, God’s true blessing for this country was revealed last week when The Avengers hit local cinemas. Continue Reading
In my last post I tossed around the word “gospel” a lot and I suppose I took it for granted that everyone knows what it means. However, we live in a day and age where there are so many ‘gospels’ that I don’t think people know what we believers are talking about. In fact, I think that even many Christians who use the word regularly are unsure of what it means.
In essence, the word gospel means “good news”. However, that can mean very different things to different people. Continue Reading
For those of you who’ve been in witness protection for the last few months, the release of Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, two hugely popular First-Person-Shooters, created an incredible hype among excited fans all over the world. It also split the gaming community in two. Sadly, the internet had decided that it was impermissible to be a fan of both titles and that one had to pick a side, which resulted in countless flame wars, much trolling, and innumerable closed forum topics. This phenomenon could be observed long before either title was released and even the eventual launch of the games did not relieve the tension. In fact, it probably made it worse.
As soon as the games were available, reviews from critics started rolling in and many gamers posted their personal reviews on Metacritic, a website which collects reviews from around the web and averages them into a single score. Amusingly (or perhaps not), Modern Warfare 3, a game which has a critic average of 8.5/10, received an average user score of 2.7/10 (averaged across PS/Xbox/PS3), whereas Battlefield 3 received an average critic score of 8.6/10 and an average user score of 7.5/10 (averaged across PS/Xbox/PS3). It’s obvious that the user score does not necessarily represent the actual value of the game. In fact, in the case of Modern Warfare 3, the user score simply represents the agenda of anti-Call of Duty gamers. Continue Reading
Perhaps you’re one of those people who turn the game sounds off while playing and simply put on some of your favorite tunes, perhaps you love the in-game music and prefer to let the musical score caress your ears, or perhaps you are simply one of those people who dont care a whole bunch for in-game music and would rather hear the the clip in your AK-47 being changed and the sound of a grenade when the pin is pulled…
So I walk into the fortress of Honor Hold in Hellfire Peninsula and I stumble upon this quest:
! The Blood is Life
I instantly thought sacrifice…
Now, People have been offering sacrifices to their god’s since the beginning of time, whether you prefer the violent mayans (for those who have seen Apocalypto), or the cave “people” who offered up a part of their mammoth kill to appease the gods who seemed to strike the village with famine, or the vegetarians who sacrifice their BBQ for a nice salad party, or the Israelites who offered sacrifices to the Only-True God?
There comes a time in every gamers life when a game is finally released that he has been waiting for for decades. At that point many feel the urge to have to buy the game straight away, an urge which, let me assure you, is perfectly normal among the human race and scientifically reasonable. Regardless of what all those people from the real world say. They’re just suppressing their own natural yearnings. I’m sure of it.
Sadly the yearning does not pay for a new game however, irrespective of whether its a natural or not.
Which means you’ll have to pay for it. And unless you have your very own supply of unicorn tears that you sell on the black market, you just won’t have enough money for every release that you’ve been waiting for.
Because unicorn tears are rather tough to come by these days, I have decided to write a 10 point guide with detailed information on how even you can make enough money to buy the latest game. Continue Reading
It’s a word that I can imagine many books have been written about, even though I’ve never read any of them. It’s a feeling that everyone seeks, even though few ever find it.Continue Reading
I do apologise for my silence lately, my life has been rather hectic and my days seemed to have way too few hours in them. As this probably applies to most of you, I realise that that is not a valid excuse. Therefore, I’m thankful that you’re still here and still supporting this blog.
While I’ve been out and about I’ve been thinking of some slight tweaks that I’d like to implement, and have begun implementing. Starting off, I’m intending to add more polls in the future, because they provide interesting data and they reveal you guys are currently interested in, and will give me more ideas as to what I should write about.
To test this new feature, yes, you might have guessed it, here’s a poll!
Furthermore, The Gaming Christian now has its own Facebook Group. Please do Like! us on Facebook, and share with us what has interested you with regard to God, Gaming and Christianity.
Facebook is a great platform to ask questions, to request content and to get to know each other more! Essentially, this blog is there for you, so let’s talk about it and make the most of it!
As we’re looking to future posts and polls that will be focused on what you are currently interested in, I’d like to take the moment to ask you what our next poll should be about. (I hope you see what I did there.)
